The incident began when Darien Police officers responded to Whole Foods at 150 Ledge Road on Thursday, Dec. 13, for the report of the theft of a wallet, said Det. James Palmieri.

The victim told officers she noticed her wallet missing when she went to pay for her groceries after having been shopping. Inside the wallet were her license, several bank/credit cards, and approximately $30 in cash, he added.

A review of the store’s security footage revealed that it appeared the purse was taken by a group of three women working together. On the video, one of the women engages the victim in conversation while the other two remove the wallet from her purse during the distraction, police said.

The victim was advised to notify her financial institutions of the theft. The next day, the woman informed officers that the cards had already been used for approximately $3,172 in purchases before she was able to make the notifications.
